Hola, I’m Vero!
IT’S SO NICE TO HAVE YOU HERE!
I’m the founder of Cafecito con Fashion — a space where adults and children learn to sew over a cup of their favorite cafecito (or a Frappuccino for the kids!). I’m on a mission to bring the lost art of sewing back to our community.
This blog is an extension of what I teach — a creative hub filled with sewing inspiration, tutorials, and resources. My goal is to make it your go-to guide for all things sewing and fashion.
If you’re dreaming of working in the fashion industry, you’ll find content here for that too. I’m especially passionate about helping Latina fashionistas break into the industry. As a first-generation Latina who started with zero connections and zero guidance, I understand firsthand why there’s so little Latino representation in fashion. But through passion and perseverance, I made it happen for myself — and now, it’s my turn to give back.
Through my Sip & Sew Pop-Ups and Sewing Programs, I create hands-on experiences that blend creativity, culture, and community. Whether you’re picking up a needle for the first time or dreaming of launching your own collection, my sessions are designed to inspire confidence, creativity, and connection — one stitch at a time.
I want to be the mentor I wish I had when I started.
So grab your cafecito, pull up a chair, and let’s dive in!
WITH OVER 10 YEARS UNDER MY BELT
I specialize in Women’s Sleepwear and Loungewear. I graduated from FIT in 2014 with a BFA specializing in Intimate Apparel – yes, you read that right- I know how to create your most flattering Faja! My first design job consisted of me designing for the following licenses: Disney, DC Comics, Sanrio and Lucasfilms and I LOVED IT! From there, I went on to work with more licensed brands which included: BedHead, Kate Spade, Betsey Johnson, Lucky Brand, Joe Fresh and many more. My most recent designs are for brands sold on QVC and HSN. To view my portfolio, head on over to my website displaying my industry work.

It all started when…
My mom sent me to public school wearing a school uniform, even though it wasn’t required. Frustrated by my lack of freedom to express myself through clothing, I was drawn to fashion. I began sketching red carpet looks, inspired by the glamorous designs I saw in magazines, and soon found myself daydreaming about seeing my own creations come to life. What started as a simple hobby quickly became an obsession. My parents supported my interest—my dad bought me my first sewing machine, and my mom convinced our downstairs neighbor, who worked in a curtain factory, to teach me how to use it.
Limited Resources
This was before the internet, so resources were limited, and I often felt stuck without proper guidance. I tried getting help at school but my art teacher had only focused on fine arts and knew nothing about fashion. When he retired, I was lucky enough to have a new teacher who became my mentor, opening my eyes to the world of fashion education. But there was still so much work to do. I felt very behind with my skills and I convinced my dad to pay for actual fashion classes at Parsons and FIT. Through those pre-college classes, I started to build my portfolio with my new sewing and sketching skills. Under my teacher’s guidance, I applied to the Fashion Institute of Technology – the only Fashion school I applied to so it was all or nothing – I held my breathe, and got in!

Beyond the world of fashion…
I’m a mama to my two beautiful babies (2 under 3) and a wife to an amazing husband. In my free time, I love spending time with my family, traveling, exploring new restaurants, reading on my Kindle, practicing photography, and catching up on my favorite shows. I’m also a podcast junkie, obsessed with all things sweet, and simply can’t live without my cafecito!
